FAO Attention of Mods Please Note.

I attempted to use the word Spar.sely

Without the full stop or period. The swear filter chucked it out. As this is a gardening forum, that word can and will be used on numerous occasions...please sort it.

I realize the word you are attempting to ban, (could have posted in in ASCII which wouldn't have been deleted, but I do not wish to go against the rules) but that spelling within another word being restricted is rather silly I feel.

Lots of words are banned under the swear filter...

 

I imagine this is an issue with the vBulletin software being used here, and not something these good folk can fix / adjust.

But FWIW I think it is nuts ..

Tweaky I found on the old software that I couldn't write the word s c r a p i n g {scraping} as in clearing the ice off of car windscreens.Havn't seen any problem with the new software as of yet:thumb:

 

The system is unable to differentiate between words that contain a word on the list and the stand alone word. Sorry about that but nothing we can do about it. Was the same on the other board.

I mod on another forum for people who are or have had joint replacements. The word ass is on the list there so words like assess and massage are also affected! But amusingly, ass is not actually the profanity. It's the version you mention that is!

 

Well, if it is an inherent problem with the software, then I shall just live and learn. Thanks for the explanation.

 

I used to work for a pub company and they bought some software to filter out swear words in incoming email messages, any emails deamed offensive would be bined and an email sent to the sender informing them that this had happened due to the offensive nature of the content of the email...it worked really well until someone rather important sent an email containing information about a pub called the cock:D:D:D

I think its a bit daft that the forum software people can't write a better filter that only looks at whole-words. Particularly as just putting some punctuation in leaves it readable and un-filtered. All a bit of an ar$e really, IMHO.

 

I have to agree kristen. I am on forums with filters and they generally look at the whole word. Also, I appreciate that this site includes people of all ages and if one is sensible, one does not go out of the way to offend members....but regarding the word I was attempting to post, the filter on that is just plain silly...but there ya go.:thumb:
