    Hello Everyone,

I'm pretty new to the gardening thing, started last year (halfheartedly as we were renting) and have got really into it this year, because we've just bought a flat with a big garden.

Firstly, big thanks to all here - I haven't posted much, but I haven't needed to as there is so much useful information here!

Now... I have had some holes start appearing on my rose (climber) and sunflowers. Different sort of holes. I've taken pictures, and would love to post them but can't work out how to insert them.

The roses look like they've had near perfect circles bitten out of the edge of the leaves. Two or three leaves had one hole each to start with, now its spreading and loads of leaves are affected.

I think the sunflower holes are caterpillars, but I can't see any signs of caterpillars anywhere.

Any ideas anyone? If anyone has any useful tips for posting pictures and wants to see them let me know!

    Thanks

    Polly

Hi Polly, and welcome. I think the problem with the Sunflower is scorch. The problem with the Rose is Leafcutter Bee. Very little you can do about either, I`m afraid.

Thanks for your reply David - sorry it's taken a while to get back to you - been busy here and there...

The Rose seems to be surviving well despite the chunks chomped out of it, its put loads of new climbing shoots out which is good to see.

The sunflowers are doing well against the odds - we are in Newhaven, I don't know if anyone else is? And we had the most unbelieveable storm last week, hailstones like golf balls. Anyway, result of that was most of the sunflowers leaves got shredded to bits and one of them (9ft) toppled over - taking the stake with it. They still seem to be happy though, have buds on the verge of flowering....
