:) Can I just share with you some pictures of the beautiful Island of Maderia.
A mere speck in the middle of the Atlantic Oceon
Maderia is a volcanic Island thickly draped with vegitation,a colourful riot of flowers and fruit trees.Rugged mountains peek through the clouds and microclimates hover over isolated villages.

We walked into the hotel and this is what greeted us and just about sums Maderia up.

Roders, that bougainvillea is amazing. I have seen it for sale in garden centres quite a bit recently - which surprised me. I would be interested to know how it performs over here.

But we can grow Argyranthemums, which I believe come exclusively from Madeira.

Absolutely beautiful. Bet you had your camera working overtime Roders! The two-tone double bourgainvilla is something else, very attractive.

Thanks for sharing - and if you have more pics, we'd like for you to share them with us too. :thumb:

:) Thanks everyone for your lovely comments

Tropical we enjoyed the Monte Tropical Gardens they were awsome, all that water coming down from the mountains.
Also enjoyed very much the Jardim Botanico the more traditional botanical gardens with so much colour and the bird park..........a must for you Strongy.
Strongy we stayed at the Cliff Bay Hotel in Funchal it is the best hotel in Madeira....well I would say that wouldn't I......but it does seem to be the general consensus.

Thanks Kedi Yes I have taken a few more pics.;)

Paladin we did have a fabulous holiday thank you......It's difficult not to in Madeira.

Yes the Jardim Botanico is rather nice too, although we were slightly dispointed with the quality of the palms, they seemed very Chlorotic down at the bottom section, however over all very nice. The cafe area was being rebuilt so there were lots of work men and mess in that section. did you see the view from the Jardim Botanico down into the valley with the massive road bridge across?

We also visited Blandy's garden, which is another more traditional garden, Jardim Orquídea which is a must for orchid fans, and one afternoon we went into the gardens of Reid's Palace Hotel, which were stunning, i can see why that hotel is so expensive!

:) Here are pictures of the QE2 on her penultimate voyage and last ever visit to Maderia.
She soon goes to Dubai for a complete refit and becomes a hotel.

A picture from the cable car, where we met some Americans who were on the QE2.
