    Today I have been mainly...
eating strawberries, sugar crisp peas, and the very first raspberries. I planted everything late so I'm lucky to get anything.
I reluctantly shared some with the guinea pigs, who rejected the raspberries but looked very funny with strawberry juice round their mouths- and they squabbled loudly over the peas!
I do like this time of year:)

Good to hear your news. Makes all the effort worthwhile, doesn't it? I'm still waiting to harvest the first lettuce from my new veggie beds in my new garden...

We have only harvested salad leaves and a few radish so far, OH said yesterday he was getting a bit despondent with it all, there just never seems to be any sun to really get everything going! My spuds are doing really well though and have lots of strawberries waiting to ripen so hopefully will get to eat something soon!

My strawberries aren't ready yet, but they are going to be good!
Have picked rocket and nasturtium leaves to use as salad garnish.

Done well so far, have had masses of strawberries (now finished), cropping peas and broad beans. Have finished all my early pots and am halfway through my second earlies. Have also been cutting lettuces for some weeks (who cuts them just above the ground and lets the stem sprout new mini heads?)

My big strawberries all finished:( but lots of alpine ones, raspberries doing great, lots of peas, and broad beans are nearly ready.:)
Potatoes [Pink fir apple, golden, and blue ones all coming along nicely although planted very late.
I plant rows of mixed lettuce, rocket, spinach etc and pull the leaves separately. Then they keep on going all summer.

We've been lucky this year :thumb: and have been pulling salad leaves (a variety of them) for over a month, picking runner beans and courgettes for a couple of weeks and have had a few ripe outside tomatoes. Caulis all almost ready for picking and, from the greenhouse we have had a few tomatoes and chillies. :)

Spuds - some very successful Duke of York. International Kidney delicious but still a bit small.
Broad beans almost ready for first picking - looking good this year.
    Peas - total failure.
Courgettes looking promising (the ones that survived the snail and slug onslaught when first planted out): picked my first 3 incher the other day.
Runners and climbing french a bit slow but now coming into flower. Bush french beans got pulled up by a pheasant!

Gardener's delight tomatoes from the greenhouse - heaven!
The first few charlotte spuds (sainsbury's seedstock.... ! )
Summer purple broccoli - one plant finally played ball and produced something.....
    A handful of caulis
enough wild rocket to start a posh soho pizza place ;)
    Pink Choggia and Detroit beetroot.
    some Early Nantes carrots
    coriander and fenugreek everywhere....

Not too bad, but still a B- score IMO. :)

2nd crop of peas were a failure, and the broad beans have infested everything with blackfly.
Cutting back the bolted perpetual spinach and silver kale *sort-of* worked, but I was away for a while, they shot up and bolted, and got all the spare blackfly that weren't on the rest of my plants.
    So they got the chop.
I saw only one solitary ladybird munching on the blackfly, but I fear it was massively outnumbered, and could swear it belched loudly and then fell asleep as I turned away. ;)
Oh well, chemicals I suppose for the remaining plants.....

    Still, it's all fun :)

    cheers,
    Dave

    Thanks for comments guys.
Peas we had with dinner today.
    They were worth the wait.
Maybe a little to big. Some of them came out the pods square!
I have found when harvesting if I shake the pod and it tends to rattle then the peas are a tad small if the do not rattle and feel firm, time to pick.
The potatoes we shall enjoy with Sunday dinner tomorrow.
Minted with fresh mint from the garden and a joint of Lamb.
    God bless England
