As promised heres a pic of not one but two male stag beetles truly amazing both these found there way into the porch we took them out a quick pic or two and then away they flew they sounded like helicopters lol http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee3/mattfev20/malestagbeetles007.jpg
we've got a an old mature wood not far away and loads of old rotten oak logs down the garden which we never ever disturb it ideal for all kinds of stuff we even see an ocassional adder and one or two grass snakes trouble is the wildlife garden and our chickens seem to be taking over the whole garden still it is worth it just to be privaliged enough to have all the different wildlife living here just wish the local badgers would pay a visit next project maybe? lol
Hi Matt. It's been years since I've seen stag beetles so thanks for posting the pictures. Fingers crossed my feeble wood pile attracts some stag beetles. Ant.
Hey Great Stag Beetles ! My wood pile is only just over a year old - not noticed any of these guys - Don't they spend years in wood before emerging? Great Photo Kath
I know this isn't the right thread for this but couldn't think of where to stick it :D :D I found this useful little website about firends and foes of gardens. http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/insects.htm
my wood pile has been there for years it is litterally rotting away i rekon if i touched it it would fall apart btw this is interesting http://maria.fremlin.de/stagbeetles/lifecycle.html
