    It's a he matt, Stag beetle (lucanus cervus) the girls don't have the antler like jaws,great picture.:thumb:

    the jaws are only small we get males as well in the same place i released this one fingers crossed i'll be able to get a pic of one of those soon as i see one again

    I don't think that i would have fancies having that crawling around on my hand :eek:

    As far as i remember they are often found around oak trees, haven't seen one for a few years.
