:) I know you must think I am petition mad, but I am not normally... Just seems there is allot to have a say in at the moment...

:thumb: I personally agree with Ireland saying no to the treaty...!! Trouble is the polititans seem to have short memories..

:thumb: If you agree with me read on & follow the link....:thumb:

An e-petition to abandon the Lisbon Treaty (EU Constitution) has been set up at the 10 Downing Street site. The treaty can only come into force if it's ratified by all 27 member states. Following its rejection by referendum in Ireland it cannot now come into force. So the treaty is dead. That's the legal position and everyone knows it. The rules at the outset were clear. However, the europhiliacs never play by the rules, even their own. So they're going to push ahead with it anyway.

It is just a re-packaged version—made intentionally unreadable—of the EU Constitution which was rejected by the the Dutch and French people first time round in similar referendums a couple or three of years ago. However, the nation-busters found those expressions of democracy inconvenient so that's why this Con treaty is now being pushed through parliaments instead—national politicos are more compliant than those they are supposed to represent. But Ireland was a risk the EU couldn't avoid—a referendum is mandated by the Irish constitution.

There's a strong possibilty that the Irish may be 'asked' to vote again, as they were with the Nice treaty, so that they can come back with the 'correct' answer this time, again. Interesting, they're forced to have a go at it twice but we never even get a shot at it once. Shurely shome mishtake?

It's not that the EU is undemocratic, it's anti-democratic.

Whether you are in favour of the treaty or not, you might want to stick your name down in protest at them riding roughshod over their own rules let alone nations, and even democracy itself.

It's going rather well. They have received over 13,000 signatures in the 12 hours since it was launched. It's 7th most popular petition out of 6,000 already. People seem to be rather upset by the eurocrats antics. About time. The deadline is 22 June.

Seem to remember somewhere else in the world where votes were counted, and because the result wasn't what was wanted by the ruling party, they decieded there must be another vote until they come up with the right answer.

    I THINK IT WAS ZIMBABWE

Maybe this is why no real action has ever been taken against Magabe.

I do agree Marley. It irritates me when they say that other countries have ratified it. No country has - they have not been given the vote, only a few politicians have.

    Touche Pete.

:thumb: Thanks Pete, Peter & borrowers, I feel this government especially, has ridden roughshod over us enough times already, while they have been in power...! If the Irish, Dutch & French can say no to it then I think we should stand up & be counted that we do not agree either..!!!:thumb:

:( I don't like giving my personal details out either borrowers, but sometimes I will give the minimum possible if I think it is worth it... Besides, they know who we are anyway from our ISPs.....:(
:thumb: So thanks for signing & if everyone passed the link to everyone they know who would sign..... Well the numbers would leap from 20,000 to treble that probably...!!!:D

Personally, I don't think the government gives a flying fuchsia about e-petitions; it's just another cynical PR exercise by those who seem to be acting just like a dictatorship. However, there is, I feel, a value in signing the petitions in that it shows just how strongly many of us feel about what appears to me to be a very sinister agenda in ignoring the implications of the Irish refrerendum. The massive support for the petition against the proposed London Mega-mosque certainly became a newsworthy item and brought the matter to the attention of those who might otherwise have been unaware about the strength of feeling over the matter.
I see that over 20,000 people (including myself) have signed the petiton so far. Those reading this thread who feel that democracy is important and haven't yet signed the petition I would urge to do so before the forthcoming deadline.

Got my vote Marley. I am sick to death of this Government acting like a steam roller - decorated with the bunting of spin. I would agree with the previous poster that they don't take much notice of petitions - another pr stunt BUT if there's enough numbers to generate media interest in the individual petition then they do wake up just a tad - even if its only to cover the steam roller with more spin bunting. .

    Sorry.

Waste of time in my opinion. We are not going to be allowed a referendum...and does anyone really know what this treaty is all about. Have you read the 300 pages of it, including amendments...I shouldn't think so. You need to be a lawyer to understand it.

Anyway. At the moment it is dead in the water. Only the Irish can resurrect it.
