I have a philadelphus virginal that has thrived in my heavy clay soil. But - the flowers have no perfume whatsoever. The shrub is around five years old and looks really healthy.

Have any members come across this problem in their own gardens?

Hello & welcome to the forum Magsanders. You might want to post your question in the General Gardening Discussion area, other posters more knowledgeable than me might be able to help.

Hello, Mag, and welcome. Not all the philadelphus' species are fragrant, alas. The most fragrant is coronarius, not the virginalis. :(

Thanks for your comments. Bit disappointing when you are expecting a fragrant shrub. Have to do more reading next time!

Hi Mag from another of the GC Devon contingent!

What a shame about your Mock orange not scenting!

My mum has one in her garden and I always think that it smells a bit like bubblegum!

    Hope you enjoy the forum!

    Kath
