Can any of you techie people advise how to unlock my (Tesco) mobile phone
which I have as a spare.

I want to use a Virgin PAYG Sim Card as it's cheaper.
On google I have read that some people who advertise unlocking services are
just charging a fee to tell you to contact your provider - so wondered if anybody
knows a cheap or free reliable source.

    Thanks

The local market traders do it around here, I am told, for a fiver.

But I'm not into that stuff myself so I bet there's a cheaper way.

I have much the same info as pete, but if you phone Virgin they'll tell you what to do. I think you have to get a code from your current provider but they'll do everything to put off giving you it!

I would look around for someone that advertises doing it - markets, in-shops etc. They have some computer way of doing it I believe.

    cheers

Perhaps it would be just as easy to buy another cheap mobile?

Thanks for your answers - I will see how I get on tomorrow and
then perhaps I will think about just getting a cheap one unless
somebody comes up with a brilliant idea :D

Like others have said its worth contacting your service provider in the first place, they would rather keep you as a PAYG customer than lose you completely. I've done this on Orange (i.e. changed to PAYG at then end of a 12 month contract), don't know if Virgin are the same.
