poppies

    i have lots of wild poppies growing in the land that i want to returf and use for veggie patches,i have this morning dug a few of them up from the root and moved them into a flower bed.am i wasteing my time or will they grow on once i have moved them?

    i've never had any luck moving poppies, they always pop their clogs. but no harm in trying, it might just be me!!

    My neighbour has transplanted some poppies, some little red ones,and some big grey leaved ones, all seedlings from her neighbour. They've survived, to my surprise! Like glenw I've never had any success.

    well i hope im lucky because ive spent hours this morning carefully digging them up an replanting them.
    when we moved here last july the garden was full of poppies,lol i didnt know that they came in all different colours and not just red.there such pretty flowers but only seem to grow where i dont want them:s

    You can collect the seed from the seed heads on poppies, and sow it where you want it. Easy to collect, and no cost. I'm not sure it will come back in a variety of colours though. Probably a lot of the seeds will yield traditional red poppies.

    I have to confess I have poppies coming up all over the place where the wind has scattered the seed from the year before. They are lovely double headed ones but I keep strimming them off as they are determined to come up and swamp my grow bags!
