I have planted three acer trees to block people staring through the gate at us on the patio. One of them has beautiful low branches...almost a bush. The other two are classical "lollipop" trees and have long trunks before the first branch is growing...above the gate.

Is there any way i can stimulate lower branch growth or is it simply "dig em up and buy two more", this time being more careful WHAT I buy ?

    Thanks for any ideas/suggestions

Trees very rarely grow branches lower down their stem as they don't get very much light. Trees will always grow towards the sun so will put all the energy into growing upwards and outwards. It's very unlikely you will get any low branches unless there are any dormant buds ready to sprout.

This "tree expert " has only the following description on his "brilliant" spreadsheet." Golden ambar Maple"
fot the bushy acer and "Maple purple" or "Maple green" for the ones without lower growth. Very horticultural !!. I will get my slave to see if there are any labels on them tomorrow !!

    Call myself an expert ?
