Ornamental plants for tubs

Hi, I would like to get some form of shrub or small tree for a large tub outside my front door. Something which is really winter hardy and can stand a bit of wind would be preferable,also must look good all year round. I know this is asking a lot and I would appreciate any advice on the subject, Thanks

 

failing that you could always try conifers, there are several that can
be grown in containers with plenty of choice of colour.
