More important from Bally's point of view .... that is the size of the tree (Acer Palmatum Atropupureum) after 10 years, and I bought it at about 4 feet high :)

I'd go along with the suggestion of an acer too. A lovely range of autumn colour to chose from there. I have an acer - [FONT=arial,sans-serif][SIZE=-1]Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum' which gives beautifully soft lime green new growth of attractively shaped leaf which then transforms to a yellow gold over the summer - it lights up the whole border it is in and is a slow grower. Heres a photo of mine at the moment...

I've got an ornamental plum tree which is my early spring beauty - it has delicate white flowers against a background of deep russet leaves and is one of the first trees to bloom in the year. It doesn't grow very big either and the deep purply/bronzy/red foliage is a delight throughout the growing season...

    Highly recommended.

    Cheers Whisk!

It has only grown about 12" since I first planted it - about 4 years ago!

I was wondering if this was due to my poor soil or if it is naturally this slow!!?? At night it still shines in the moonlight - a truly lovely tree.

    Do you have one W?

    Wouldn't you know CM ... I have three :)
Well ... I DID say it was one of my favourites
It DOES grow slowly .... mine only put on maybe two or three inches each year
Here is one pictured in 2003 and again in 2007 for comparison purposes ...
