..they should use me as a benchmark!

The only thing I ever knew about lawn care was that you had to cut it sometimes. And not in the wet. And don't run over electric cables with a flymo.

Having been forced into caring for my own lawn now, and feeling like I could very much enjoy it, I need to ask for advice on where to start.

Currently the grass is a few inches long with accumulating dandilions and the odd MASSIVE(in my opinion) thistle. There are also some other leafy looking weeds appearing, which I couldn't begin to identify. I imagine allowing a miniture shetland pony to graze on it wasn't the brightest of ideas either.

    Where should I start pls?

Hi Emma I am not a lawn expert But I always give the advice which I would follow myself ,so I would Cut it first then use a lawn rake on it,then have a fresh look at the lawn ,You will be able to see where the Problems are and then all your friends on Gardeners Corner will help you. :)
