    Hi,

    Im new here, so hi!

Im also new to gardening so thats why im here. Our garden has been neglected for some time, and with the weather being good yesterday we decided to cut the grass. The flymo did its work well, but with the grass having been about 2ft deep obviously it is less than perfect underneath. Very dead looking in places, with "straw type" grass rather than nice green stuff. Also where there has formerly been large clumps of thicker grass, there are now some quite thick clumps of mowed root if that makes sense

Can anyone give me any advice as to the best way to get the lawn back to its old self?

    Cheers in advance

    Hi engine,

I am not an expert but I expect one will be along shortly - they are all too busy gardening in this lovely weather at the moment :) In the meantime if you are able to post any pictures at all that will help people to diagnose your problems. Love EGW

I would mow it three or four more times over the coming weeks, and if there is some decent lawn grass in there it will start to look like a lawn. If at that point it still looks pretty poor you could either: overseed it with lawn seed, and gradually turn it back in to a decent lawn - slow but not too much effort, or you could kill it off and start again - more work, and cost but probably a better final result.

beachleafs advice is sound, Id add that top dressing and watering will help.
