You can get some stuff to rot it. drill a hole and put it in. Dai or PG or someone will tell you what it is called.

personally, unless it really has to come out, i'd leave it. I'm not convinced the stump rot stuff works, and neither does most of the evidence. If anything it may slightly speed up the rotting process but even so it could still take years to rot dependant on the size of the tree. i'm sure just drilling holes into the stump to allow water, insect etc into it would be just as effective without using chemicals.

It could be taken down to ground level using a stump grinder, a tree surgeon will quote you.

but, if it wasn't in the way or causing problems, i'd leave it. whatever the concrete slab is for may become redundant in time and when that goes you could always dig the stump out then. It would probably be easier then as some of the smaller roots will have rotted away too.

Must disagree about whether it works Glen I had a hedge cut down about 8 years ago. Some of it was treated with the rot stuff...It's gone. Some wasn't....... it is still there.

i've never tried it John, was only going on what i was advised when I cut down some leylandii thats all. maybe its more effective on some more than others or it was personal preference of the tree surgeon I used. I do remember looking online and quite a few reports appeared to back it up. as you say, pro gard or dai will probably have some ideas on what to do.

Craig , there are two products available to the domestic gardener, Root Out and SBK ( Scrub and Brushwood Killer). The non chemical alternative, as Glen said, is someone with a stump grinder. Which will be more expensive.:)

If iyts next to a slab then a stump grinder is not an option, being that the head is circular it will leave a portion of stump unncut.

Root out is the stuff ( amonium sulphamate)
