    Hi all,

I've just planted two mint plant pots from a well known Supermarket into a ceramic pot. The pot is in an area of the garden, which has sunlight for most of the day.

If I buy other potted herbs from 'a well known supermarket', will they be ok and thrive once re-potted?

    Thanks, Nick

I will be interested to know how your supermarket herbs get on now re-potted. I haven't ever done that myself, I always buy herbs from a nursery or garden centre.
Keep us posted how they do, Nick!

I'm sure the mint will be O.K. Be interested if Basil etc. does allright. I find this to be a fussy plant

I have a beautiful Basil Plant that I bought from a supermarket and repotted it 2 years ago. It's still doing very well in my window seal in the kitchen where I take a few leaves out every week when I need it for cooking! The smell is lovely too.

My basil, which I think was given to me as a cutting, has spread all over the place. I can't keep up with it. I find chives are a lovely plant to grow in the garden in their own right, as well as being really useful for summer salads. I don't think I've bought herbs from a supermarket, I usually get them either from cuttings kindly given me, or bought from a nursery or GC.

At the moment, I have chives, basil, parsley, sage, mint and, um, I think that's it. I do have monarda (bergamot) which I think is classed as a herb, although I don't use it as such. It's in my cuttings garden.

Mint grows where other herbs fear to tread and it's wonderful with lamb and peas :)

The only difficulty I've found is that when planted out, the growth is a bit soft and sappy, and some die back usually happens. I haven't tried inside, but have successfully planted out parsley, coriander, and dill. I know they are easy to grow from seed, but the little supermarket pots are really cheap and will form a nice clump.
    :)

Just bought some parsley from A Well-Known Supermarket, (no, not Tesco) but I don't hold out much hope, parsley's a bit difficult......
I do sometimes buy herbs from their Garden Centre Department, but usually I buy them from Jekka's Herb Farm.
Just off home to do some more planting!!
