Hey ya'll, this might sound silly. But we have an apple tree in our garden and wondered wether the Apples are ok to eat? My mom seems to think its best not to eat them, the tree has been here since we moved in about 2 years ago.

    Thanks

I've never heard of a poisonous apple! The eating varieties should all be fairly sweet to eat (won't pucker your cheeks unless unripe), but the cookers will definitely be best in a crumble!

I too just pick our apples and eat them - they're not ready til really late, are ENORMOUS, deep red skinned and better than any apple I've ever eaten from a shop!

Do you have pictures of them?

Give then a go when they're ready!

Definitely OK to eat. If desert apples just eat them. If cookers, then make a pie or crumble or sauce with them. Certainly no problems

Yes Celia My favourite eating apple is Granny Smith but I also cook with it. It stays firm longer but a tarte tartin made with a Granny is like apple heaven.

BP, as has been said, there are no poisonous apples, but if you can describe them, someone on here may be able to tell you if they are dessert or cooking apples.:)

I read that there was a poisonous apple that the bad witch made and it made Snow White fall into a deep sleep :)
Do you think that story was untrue?

It was the evil witch wot cast a spell on the apple, luckly a handsome prince was close by to perform a Heimlich manoeuver and so save the beautiful princess.

Do you think the handsome prince was a folk singing Ulsterman. Or was that guy too busy trying to get his tongue out of his cheek?:D
