    Hi
Ihave voted labour most of my life however i feel change is needed at local level and westminster there are a number of reasons why i beleive this Petrol prices are one and the tax the gov takes before long we will be paying £1.50 per litre but since labour came to power we must all be paying around 20-25 stealth taxes i have retired last year but peop still workin must be paying a high % of their hard earned wages on taxes.

There are other issues a couple of people i know are unable to get jobs anywore in the building industry because they are employing men from other EU countries i have nothing against these people but when british are unable to get jobs then there is something wrong crime in most parts is worse than its ever been because the police drive around most days and nights with two in a car its a rare sight to see a policeman or woman on foot .

I am sure theres lots of views for and against labour it would be intresting to read some of your views also the housing market young people today have no chance of buying a home in most parts.

Hi Golfer. As someone who, like you, has usually voted Labour (but not always - when I was a councillor I was an independent). I agree it's time for a change.

My views were mainly based on the belief that health is a right not a privilege and our health service was one of the best in the world The Labour Party set it up but seem totally incapable of changing it for modern times. They are simply following the old Thatcher policies which I am against, at least on health. I think that the Conservatives now are far more forward looking in this area. I really shouldn't be getting involved in a political debate on GC because whenever I do the neo-conservative members start yelling about it all being the fault of the immigrants and the fact that we don't hang people for shop lifting so this will be my only post on this matter.

I am afraid the Labour Party has dropped its attractive policies of caring for the under privileged but kept it's control freak attitude. Do you know that in the last 10 years 3,000 more things have become illegal? As an example it is now illegal for a British subject to make a film on the deck of the Titanic without paying for a Govt licence. Is that all they can think of to pass the time?

Couldn't agree more, Labour no more, In- house Advisor's tax doubled (low paid and part time) for last month. The lower paid have been kicked in the teeth again by a Socialist Government (?)
The Reds are becoming more Blue by the day.
I didn't and never have voted Tory either.

If it wasn't so serious and peoples lives were not so badly affected by this goverment it would be funny.
    How ridiculous they are.
They have no idea about real people and real peoples lives.
You have to laugh at some of the stupid things they say and do.
But looking closer it makes me very afraid at how it's all going to end if something isn't done , and soon.
I can't understand why some people will still vote for them.

Well I'm going to get it in the neck, but I cant be bothered to vote, its only for the local council and they end up with such a mish mash of people in charge that nothing worth while ever gets done.
Have you noticed how, at these polling times, whatever you say they agree with you, afterwards they agree with you but ignore you at the same time.

I think the whole election system needs a good kick up the **** in this country, it maybe the mother of all parliaments but its not changed much since it started.

I suppose there is one change, they all make, and fiddle a lot more money now, than they did in the past.

Whoever is in the hot seat I end up paying through the nose, council tax or income tax, I think they are going to have to make voting compulsory very soon, or they are going to end up looking very silly, doing a job that no one wanted them to.

The only candidates available in our ward today, were 4 labour, 1 independent and 1 BNP. Needless to say, being selfemployed, I did NOT vote Labour.

I don't usually broach the unpleasant subject of politics on such a pleasant site as this but when I saw Ken Livingstone's mayoral election broadcast in which he seemed to be taking pride in the fact that over 300 different languages were now spoken in London schools alone (I didn't realise there were that many in the world!) I made up my mind that I would rather vote for the Tomcat up the road in preference to someone who takes delight in such division in our capital city.

We don't go to the polls until the 8th. Nobody has been round yet and we've only had one circular. How do you make an informed decision without any information?

Don't worry about it too much Celia. They are all economical with the truth anyway. I think Pete may have the right ide. Protest by doing nothing. (Whoops I said I wouldn't re-post on this thread but as everyone seems to be more or less in agreement......););)

Well nice to see some of your views i stated a few things yesterday why i was not going to vote labour again there were lots of other issues as well Health and the post code lottery i guess we have all paid over the years ie NI yet in certain parts of the country some are denied treatment by the NHS also council tax like many of you we are paying far to much.

I feel for some people around the country where they have to pay when they drive into their cities and a lot of people drive because public transport is poor or there is none to suit them its all a money making racket the motorist is paying through the nose between everything even speeding cameras and traffic wardens is another avenue for making money dont get me wrong road safety is important and some camers should be in places where a risk to life or injury may happen.

Wll today labour have had a bit of a bashing however in Port Talbot where i live i just dont understand people they put the same ones back in every time. Ifeel strongly about this gov and we have had so much spin over the years from Tony Blair and now Gordon Brown he says he listens to people but as far as i can see it quite the oppiste he does not listen to people and what about their perks to buy fridges and tv and many other items for their homes.

It was intresting to read last week in the paper about John Prescott and his eating illness well he claimed over £4000 last year for meals and then he goes and be sick after it all what a waste???

Golfer. They all do it, not just Labour. Incompetence in governing is a different thing from just ripping off the tax payer as an individual MP. and I repeat, they (nearly) all do that.

Ive got my fingers crossed that Borris will be the new london mayor, Not the best of people but the best of the two others.

Livingstone has crippled small busineses in london with the congestion zone, over zealouse parking enforcment and the final straw the london low emmision zone.

Theres a few things to be said from living and working in a very rural area.
