    Yes, it's very effective.
Also, if you stop using "bought" cleaning products with artificial fragrances in them for a bit, when you get near them you really notice the smell, it does nasty things to your nose and throat.

You are not wrong about the additives, Scotkat. My mother-in-law is obsessed by air fresheners - plug-ins, sprays and those mad things that puff out every few minutes. Now at the age of 68, she's been diagnosed asthmatic. Are the two things related? I think so! I know I get a headache 10 mins after walking in to the house. (May not be the air freshener though  )

Apparently the puff things are quite good for plants that like humidity, if you change the revolting artificial scent for plain water :D
Scotkat, peppermint oil is the same stuff used for aromatherapy and massage. Here's the holland and barrett page - http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=282 - it's a bit dearer in boots but on offer at the mo, buy one, get second half price - http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1044503&classificationid=1046392 although you may well be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. A bottle lasts for ages though :)

I have used Ecover products for years too. Have been short on cash lately, so have been using supermarket own brand eco-sashing powder - but would never change from Ecover washing up liquid, and always have a multi-surface cleaner under the sink. Have used the liquid laundry wash, but find it leaves the clothes feeling 'thick', so stick to powder (only use half recommended dose).

Used to use eco-balls, used them for years, but have succumbed to using powder again (maybe changing jobs from gardening to working in secondary school had something to do with it!) They did make me realise though that you really don't need to use half as much powder/detergent as recommended.

Having extrememly sensitive skin - chronic eczema - I have to be very careful not to use anything too perfumed/strong etc, and I have always wanted to leave as little negative impact on the world as I can.

I've used Ecover products for years too... and tend to use less than instructed because of expense. I use lemon, vinegar and salt where I can for cleaning, too. I don't do it because of global warming but because of water pollution, and also because I prefer simplicity and the less artificial stuff we use the less waste to dispose of. :)
