    Hi,

I am interested in purchasing a petrol scarifier for a large lawn 3/4 acre.

To cut a long story short, purchased an apache 601 scarifer due to it being wide (60cm)(albeit costly), but collection bag that was purchased separately (didn't come with it) was useless - didn't collect anything.

I have been interested in the Dori SC34BS as a replacement, but this has only 45 litre collection bag or a lazer pro 460h (more money but comes with 78 litre collection bag).

Anybody comment on either of these or any other ones which may be good? Do need at least 45cm width due to lawn size.

Also, would it be best getting a scarifer with swing blades or static ones? Is one better than the other?

    Thanks for your help.

I use an elliet 401, Very solidly built, efective and the height has loads of adjustment.

An awfull lot of the other machines are plasticy or dont have a honda engine. The blades on mine are stelite surfaced, individualy replaceable and self sharpening.

The collection bag on mine is 60 litres and although it fills quick I tip it into an old one ton builders bag thus saving time

Heres a picture of mine working

Very nice lawn! From your picture Paul looks like the impact on the lawn is not too significant.

When I use my Wolf Garten electric scarifier it pulls up a huge amount of debris and leaves the lawn looking like the Somme.

Is this simply because my lawn is full of moss, thatch etc, or is my scarifier very aggressive?

    Thanks

    Gary

I set the blades high, just enough to lift moss but not enough to rip it to shreds, if the blades are too low you end up weakening the grass and blunting the machine.

If needs be say a neglected lawn then I will scarifiy a second time at 90 degrees to the first, possibly reapeating in 3 weeks after a heavy dose of liquid feed or iron sulphate.

The lawn pictured I cut weekly, regularly sprayed with iron sulphate, liquid feed etc and is scarifeyd each spring and early autumn therfore the moss and thatch is kept to a minimum.
