Hello daisyboo and welcome to GC.

I am thiinking it is perhaps an Orb-weaver (Araneus ceropegius) which are quite widespread between June and September. My sister, Kedi-Gato of Germany here on GC is a spider freak so may be able to confirm or deny this identification. I will point her in this direction tomorrow.

Welcome to GC daisyboo and Hi Sis!

I tend to say it is a Garden Spider rather than an Oak Spider, Sis.

I think I might have a pic or two of a Garden Spider from underneath. I'll see if I can find them and get back to you.

    I'd agree, it's a Garden Spider - Araneus diadematus.

lovely photo but there is no way I'm planning on having tea with that spider.
I'm sure that the one I found had hob-nailed boots on because it made a thunk on the patio when I served him with an eviction notice :hehe: and the little booger promplty turned round and started to head back towards the kitchen door !

    Digressing...

I remember reading once about two old ladies who were interviewed about their war experiences.

"When the bombs fell, I presume you both went down into the air raid shelter."

    "No, we never went down."

    "But what about the bombs?"

"Bombs were a possibility, but spiders were definite!"

Kedi-Gato, I put on my big-brave armour on and went out and re-read him the eviction notice and he agreed to re-think his behaviour. Honestly, I don't mind spiders at all but I draw the line at having to sit and have tea with one. :lollol:I'd never kill a spider, I'd just relocate it.

Doghouse Riley, I love that line...."Bombs were a possibility, but spiders were definite!"

Well done, Shobhna. :gnthb: I always carefully pick them up and put them outside.

Doghouse Riley, I love that little story, too. :gnthb:
