Many thanks to Intermeplants for pointing me in this direction - and giving me the chance to vote on some astounding and beautiful photography.

Many stood out for me for totally different reasons making voting a nightmare.

Some comments before my final vote if that is ok.

Marley Farley - "January Storm Brewing"

What a dark, evocative and atmospheric (literally!) photo. Reminds me of a scene from one of my beloved old Hammer films. Gave me a thrill on first sight.

DaveW - "Morning Mist on the Tay"

So many aspects of this photo to praise. The lighting is magical - the sun on the clouds and the multiple layers of mist and trees, hills and houses. Really excellent.

    Pro Gard - "Icicle"

A spectacular close up of a really exciting subject. The detail PG has managed to capture of the ice is incredible. Nature and photographer working together at their very best.

    Paladin - "Slippery Slope"

I can almost feel the cold coming out of this photo. Great composition and I love the mystery of the road disappearing into the mist taking the viewers eye with it!

    Kandyfloss - "Memories of Christmas".

Nature showing off her works of art and KF capturing it wonderfully.

    Strongylodon - "Reflections of Brugge"

This is a magnificent photo. The clarity and sharpness is immaculate, the colours sing out, the reflections are unblemished and the scene is so calm and still it is as if the world has just momentarily held its breath. Marvellous - and would make a wonderful watercolour painting... Rosa???? [IMG]

Whiley "A satisfying sprint in the frosty morning"

Ah what can I say about this except it brought a massive smile ! I have seen a lot of compositions of animals but this is really a fantastic moment caught on film. These are the happiest dogs I have seen in a long time and the "spirit" of the picture just radiates from them. Well Done.

    Rosa - "A Goan Reflection"

Moody and oozing atmosphere. What is the lady going to do? What is she thinking about? What is she seeing? All these questions spring to mind. The light of the sun on the waves and the sand really lifts the picture. One to approach the Goan Tourist board with I think for the next travel brochure.

LOL - "Footprints in the Sand"

Who has not been moved by the story of "footprints" and LOLs picture does it more than justice. The silvery sunlight on the sea is magical and looking at the picture, the viewer almost feels he has just missed out on seeing a story take place just moments ago.

WOO - "Birds Eye View" and Marge "Snowdrops"

Both these photos had the same effect on me - to see the simple, pure beauty of nature manifest as these lovely spring flowers and all the hope of renewal and warmer days to come they bring. Would like to see a photo taken of Woo taking his photo - I have grovelled on the floor many a time for a different perspective - hats off to you for pulling this off! Marge - your snowdrop composition is most evocative for me in the competition of what the end of winter and start of spring is all about. I love the textural feel of your pc with the barky background and the leafy foreground. Lovely!

I enjoyed looking at EVERY photo and apologies to anyone I didn't mention - I didn't want to use up all the forums webspace allowance - although I could have cited many more.

    My final vote is:

    1st Place: 5 points - Pro Gard - "Icicle"

2nd Place - 3 points - Marley Farley "January Storm Brewing"

3rd Place - 1 point - Whiley "A Satisfying Sprint in the Frosty Morning"

    Well done everyone!

    Kath
