[IMG] I was just wondering if any of you had found this...!! I got my old canon camera out the other day for my grandson to use. It has been put away in it's case for quite a while with no batteries. When I got it out all the date settings etc were gone.... Anyone else experienced this??????

Hi Marley I used to find with my Kodak Easy Share camera that if I took the batteries out to recharge them without putting a fresh set in the camera straight away then when I put them back in all the date settings had gone and the camera wouldn't let me take any photos until I had reset the date, but I got fed up with having to go all through the palarva of reseting the date. With my new Fuji I have more batteries in the camera so have bought two sets so I have't had the problem with this one.

I don't even know how to add the date or my name to photo's so if anyone can help me I would be much obliged.Failing that I shall have to raed the instruction manual.

Hope this helps you with problem [IMG]

    [IMG] Hi Kandy,
Yes it was a palarva setting them all again but we soon did it. I suppose it had been put away for about 4 weeks with no batteries & all gone. :( I have put it away before, for short periods with no batteries & all the settings seemed to be there. I like the date & time settings to be right then if I forget when I took a photo the details are all there in properties. [IMG]

Yes Marley I can see what you mean.We went to Stratford Upon Avon last August for my 50th Birthday celebrations and then again this year in July so Mr Kandy has dated the photos in the folders he has put them into on the computer,so we know which ones were took in which year,so as not to confuse ourselves [IMG]

    Kandy -
the date the camera is set to is automatically stored as data appended to each photo image file (image). Other data are also also recorded these include type of camera, camera settings such as speed and exposure, manual/auto etc, etc.
Depending on what photo editing software you use you can see the info usually by clicking on "Image Information" or something similar.

    Time & Date 'amnesia'
Camera memory is volatile which means it needs a supply of power to maintain it. It will last for a short time without batteries, just how long varies between cameras, but but it can be anything from a few minutes to a couple of hours.
We had a Fuji that when stored even with good batteries in it lost power and memory within a couple of months. We now use our cameras so regularly that the batteries never have chance to go flat.

    Discharging NiMH Batteries
Some cameras that use Nickle Metal Hydride batteries have a menu option to fully discharge the batteries. This is well worth doing a couple of times a year as it makes a significant diffrence to the amount of charge the batteries will hold.
