Is this the correct thing to do with strawberry runners?

Sorry for the sideways photo, I had an old pot of compost and I just pegged down a runner from my strawberry plant into it. It has a few leaves on the surface but hopefully it'll be ok?

The runner is still continuing to grow will I be able to get another plant out of this runner or is it just one plant per runner?

    Any help would be amazing?

You could get another plant from the same runner if you let it grow.

Personally I'd be happy with one.:)

    Hi there,
I planted strawberries from seed when I first moved here 15yrs ago. I have taken new runners from each plant over the years and have come to the conclusion that the first runners are the best. This year though for the first time I have grown them in the greenhouse and what a difference in yield! I'll certainly be growing in the greenhouse next year too.

Hmm - I see no photo! Had a tinker with your post to see if I could make it show. The url is there but still no show. Obviously other posters can see it, yes?

This was a topic of interest to me as well! :skp:

    Hi Jazzythumper
I usually peg my strawberry runners down in 4" pots using hair pins,
they root in about a week or so if you keep them well watered, my runners
are already throwing out new runners, though I usually cut them off.

If it's any help, everything I've been told is that you only let the first runner grow as this will produce a strong and healthy plant for next year. The others will only take up the plant's energy and produce weaker, inferior runners. It's what I've always done and have done this year.
