Hi Rosa,Have you entered the Irish Lottery recently and bought a ticket?

I had a letter come three times telling me I had won £25,000 and each time I composted them.On our local radio station last week a lady had the same one as me come and had rung the consumer part of the programme thinking it was genuine. The programme broadcaster rang the 0800 number and spent 10 minutes listening to some posh talking guy reading out the serial numbers and it turned out that she hadn't won the major price of £25,000 but had won a mini cruise for four people, but that they had to pay for the flights over to Crete I think it was to catch the cruise boat plus she would be sharing the cabin with three other people. There was also an unknown charge of £30...

If I was you I would bin it unless of course you have the winning ticket with the winning numbers on it in your hand at the presant time [IMG]

Linda It is 100% scam, never mind spam. If you haven't bought a ticket you haven't won, and if you have, they don't email you. Firstly they don't know your email address secondly, they just send you a cheque. Don't ever reply to these 'You have won.....' emails. You haven't.

I have a friend who some years ago 'won' on a scratch card inside a magazine. He owns a garage which he used to run himself and in his retirement rents out so he can live in LoL-land every winter playing golf. So he isn't stupid. The only thing was, to 'claim' his prize he had to phone an 09 number at £1 a minute. He asked me and I advised him not to touch it. Who would want to give you £50,000 pounds for nothing? But he phoned the number and was left in a 'queue' for 20 minutes before a recorded voice came on and spent another 5 minutes explaining that the 'prize' had already been claimed by someone else. 25 minutes = £25.

I said he wasn't stupid but he must be greedy. He went over and bought another magazine and 'won' again on the scratch card. This time a car. So the idiot went through the same thing again. I understand he is a good golf player.

I understand that the law is you can offer one prize to x million people and only have to give it to the first one to claim. If that one person is your wife/husband/brother etc. then you are still legal.

The law wants changing but last time an MP tried with a private members bill it was talked out by another MP who presumably had a financial interest.

    The Govt. should act.

A few years ago it was estimated by the DTI that email and letter scams that said you had won money (or left money in a will etc) cost the British gullible public £640 million a year  .

Keep away from all these sort of things.

On the other hand, I have a foolproof way of making money. All it takes is a little time and effort. Just send me a fiver (to cover my printing costs) and a stamped addressed envelope and I shall send you the full details of how to make at least £5,000 a year.

    John, :D :D

Did you also know that after many years of consultation the Oxford English Dictionary have removed the word 'gullible' from the dictionary?

My husband caught me out with that one a couple of years ago. My only defence is that I was very sleepy at the time. :(

Yes I agree with John that it is all a big rip off Rosa I had a card out of a sunday newspaper last week and this week and you always get a winning line or two nunmbers tha match and then if you do get them you have to ring them to get a claim number before you can do anything else and the phone number costs £1.50 per min and it lasts for more than 6 mins £9.00 plus before you start no I am sorry you dont get out for nout

I had a period a few years ago when I was getting these letters telling me I`d won this amount or that amount. And thay would say that it would cost me x-amount of money for " administration " fees. I would send the claim form back with a note thanking them for informing me of my good fortune, and would they please take their fees out of my winnings and forward me the balance. I think the cheques must have got lost in the post. [IMG]
