"Planet Mars will be the brightest object in the night sky during August.

Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.

This will culminate on Aug. 27, when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth.

On Aug. 27. at 12:30 am, it will look like the earth has 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Evening, jj. Didn't put this up but I received this last week, virtually the same thing ...

    "Two moons on 27 August

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth.
Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

All they have on the BBC site about Mars this month is...
    Mars
The red planet rises in the east just before midnight in mid-month. This means that it is high in the south-east sky by the time dawn arrives.
An event well worth staying up for ââ?¬â?? if you're the late-to-bed type ââ?¬â?? happens between the 18th and 25th. Then Mars will appear to be an extra star in the Hyades star cluster of Taurus, the Bull.

I also checked it out on hoax slayer and they say the email was true in 2003 but not now, the website for this is

Talking of NASA reminds me that many many years ago Mrs shiney had to phone the IMF on a private line at their head office. She thought nothing of it when an American voice answered (which is what she expected) but got a bit disturbed when she was being asked a lot of questions about who she was and who she worked for etc.

When the person at the other end finally accepted that this was a genuine call he apologises and explained he was Colonel ? (I can't remember his name). He said that he was sitting on the flight control desk at Houston and that they were in the middle of a launch!! When Mrs shiney said she would ring off he said "no, keep talking as I love your English accent".

She managed to get the IMF when she dialled again.
