    Hi knowlegable people :D

At present, my neighbour has a low fence, which he's very keen on, and wants to keep. I'd prefer more privacy, but am attempting to find a solution everyone is happy with

So, instead of a higher fence (my original, and if honest, preferred suggestion) I've been looking at creating a natural screen with bushes and shrubs. He's already mentioned (when I planted some wisteria on trellis) that he didn't want anything too high (demaning ain't he?!:help:) so am looking for a really good natural screen which:

Is fast growing - or am happy to buy mature plants
Grows to over five foot, but not leylandii status! (If Wisteria on trellis was too much - can you imagine, and the dreaded L word has already been mentioned)
Fairly easy to maintain, so that should it start heading skyward, it isn't too much to handle.

My feeling is he's going to moan about whatever I do, but this seems to me a good compromise? Anyone who's experienced anything similar and managed to find a compromise that suited everyone, would love to hear from you

    Thanks guys

    Claudette

Hi Claudette, you could always use some trellis and grow a couple of Clematis Montana
over it. don't fix the trellis to your neighbours fence, put in posts and fix the trellis to the posts. if you want it to go the full length of your garden plant a Montana at each end and allow ithem to grow together, it will look amazing when in flower and will give you a natural screen, though it isn't evergreen.

PS: Please stay clear of Leylandii

Thanks Pete. Sound advice, I might do that in some parts of the garden, as summer when its in flower is when the screening is needed most. Will also have a look into evergreen (with the exception of Leyandii!) to see what would provide more a bushy screen.

    Thanks again

Hi Claudette I have a Wildlife Hedge Hawthorn Etc,which will only grow as high as you allow it,but it will grow 2/3ft out from the fence, and their is a plus he wont be able to get over it because of the thorns:hehe::) Let us know how you get on,it will grow into a decent hedge in about 2 years:thmb: Just a thought:)
