:cnfs:Before sampling I wonder if it would be possible to identify these fruits very abundant in my local woods.
Similar to cherries in size about 25mmD,bright to dark red.
Flesh very similar texture as to plums extremly juicy ,very tempting???
The leaves are about 50mm in length with serrated edges which I hope show in photos.:gnthb:

 Hi caskin, Like Woo I am puzzled why I am seeing trellis when you are talking about trees in your local wood.... There are eating Cherries which we usually have in out gardens & bird cherries that you usually see in the woods ... Bird cherries are mainly all stone & no real juicy flesh, as compared with cultivated ones, so I am puzzled... Is what you are showing, in the woods or your garden..??:D

Return from woods with photos of items in situ.Might add there are about a dozen trees in this area all loaded with fruit?trees reach 30 to 40ft in height, growth mainly in upper canopy, diameter of trees between 1ft and 18 inches.Fruit grows as can be seen singularly or bunched as with cherries?(size similar to large cherries)
Flesh appears exactly as seen in Victoria plums.
Immature fruits appear as green, then lemon, pale red then dark red?
Hope photos show the scene, and identification is possible....would hate to see a good crop going to waste!!:help:

Similar to ones growing near the reservoir near me. If they are the same they are Mirabelle Plums.

some are sweet and sometime are bitter - we also have red and yellow ones.

As well as being pleasant to eat they make lovely jam. And My sister in law made plum vodka last Christmas with some of them, which went down very well.

Just discovered some more info..apparently they are wild plums defined by shape of stone?Stone is flat with two defined creases, whereas cherry plums apparently have round stones?
Site was originally that of a stately home 18/19C then turned over to the Navy as a training college with the outer grounds left much as they are.The college was demolished many years ago, with again the wooded areas left undisturbed,so the trees could be extremely old?
