Buddleia and Lilac Question

    When and how do I prune these two bushes please ? Last year I must've done something wrong because the buddleia is only just coming into flower now..

    I prune both immediately after flowering, Buddleia can be cut back really hard without losing the flowers next year.:gnthb:

    Lots of buddlea is just coming into flower around here so I don't think you did anything wrong.

    Ok that's great then , thank you. When is it supposed to flower Alice ? I thought it was a lot earlier than this but I never had one before last year :) I got it on ebay cheap and its lovely.

    It should flower from summer onwards - the ones growing wild here have been in flower since June, but then it's been a hot, dry summer.

    Mine are just coming into flower,looking forward to seeing the
    white one,a cutting my son gave me.

    Meant to add - those growing in gardens seem to be later than the common light purple one.

    Mine is starting to develop the flowe spikes now - but the weather is lashing rain and wind and its 13C so I dont hold out much hope of seeing it anytime soon ! Its a "Black Knight" variety. Gorgeous dark purple.

    I have a lovely darkish purple one ,( although it doesnt look it in the bright sunlight here, and the camera has lightened it . It smells beautiful too. Countless pretty butterflies as you would imagine. It has had its first full flush of flowers and Ive dead headed, and now the next lot of flowers are out......

    One thing though, it grows huuuuuge each year ! It was cut right down hard last year and it is taller than ever now, help, it's making a take over bid !
