I have a flymo hover mower but the thing that i dont like is that it blows the cut grass all over my planted borders.
A friend is selling a qualcast 320 eclipse mower which has a roller fitted, would this be better for me ? :)

I've a flymo, a "Glidemaster 380" but I can reduce the small amount of grass it throws out on to the border, as it mainly throws it out to the right, so I keep the border to the left of the mower when I cut the edge.
I have a path o0n the other side of the lawn so I keep that on the right when I cut that edge, so any grass is thrown onto it. But to be honest There's never much.
I find you have to make sure there's no build of of "gunge" sticking to the underside of the base which is designed to direct the grass towards the basket.

If it's a friend selling the mower why not go round there and "have a go" with it on his lawn first?

Hover mowers don't collect very well.

It's not surising when you think its trying to blow air down to float on and at the same time suck air up with the cut grass in it.

A standard rotary with wheels will collect much better and they are just the job for running over a lawn covered in fallen leaves in the autumn long after grass cutting is not needed.

Hi Bluesea. i know you will be better off with your qualcast 320 eclipse Mower. i have had a rotary mower
and a Flymo i have now purchased a qualcast Cylinder and i am highly delighted with the product.
i have less weed's on my lawn i believe the previous two Mowers scattered the weed seedlings during the cutting of the grass. within a few days after cutting, the buttercups/Daisies reapeared ..
so hoping you can get a good price from your friend . music:cool:.

As they say, each to their own...
The problem with cylinders is if the grass is wet. Also if it is a power mower there's a possibility of damaging the turf if used in those conditions.

I'm happy with the Flymo, it blows little grass out and it's quick to use. Handy when I'm mowing three times a week at this time of the year. I also don't have to wait until the grass is reasonably dry. In fact if it's a bit wet it doesn't throw any grass out at all, but there's a lot of gunge to be cleaned off from the underside when I've finished mowing.
