Another ID please

    No picture I'm afraid...
    This is a large shrub with pointed oval leaves which are dark green and furry when young, not so much when older. Leaves are not shiny and around 2" long. Flowers are white, tiny and borne singly on the stems with very little stalk. Seem to be all one petal but with ? 4 points at the top,
    It has a lovely wafting perfume and must be fairly common as it has been planted by local council in several places.

    Sounds like it could be Elaeagnus x ebbingei. It's in flower at the moment, with a gorgeous scent.

    How about the osmanthus burkwoodii? It's planted a lot around here, and is lightly scented - really nice, and nothing like the heterphyllus!

    Thanks both, I've had another look and I think it's the Eleagnus. Quite pleased as it will grow in shade.
