It's under investigation now, Microsoft are hopping mad, they don't supply information or call users.

I've heard about this too. I believe MS have discontinued use with some 'outside' people although these people said it couldn't have come from their offices, yeah right. I hope MS can prove what has happened and come down hard but maybe that is wishful thinking.

I haven't had one but do get quite a few other annoying calls. I try to be polite but sometimes I've had enough and just say ' I'm not interested', 'Im not giving you that information' etc. That's as nasty as I get, wow hahaha. Until I get really peed off then look out!

    cheers

Yeah,I've had several from poor English speaking people advising me to download a clean up system for my'about to crash PC'...all a scam of course,so now I just ask the caller to hold on while I connect to a secure line which is being screened by British Intel and thank them for their help....The line always goes dead at that point!:hehe:

I have recently taken the stance to refuse to give any personal information to unsolicited callers even if I know the company they are purporting to be from. This has included catalogue companies asking me to confirm my name and address:
My mantra is that I don't give out personal information to unsolicited callers.
When they insist they already have this information, I just say "fine, what do you want me to tell you for?" They reply "It's just for security" and I tell them "So is my refusal to give you that information."

Then there are other callers asking me if I'd mind telling them which power suppliers I am signed up with. Or callers at the door politely asking me the same to which I reply "yes I do"!! They look taken aback and try another tack but I just keep on saying "I don't give out personal information on the door step". And I don't, not even my name. Sadly it doesn't seem to stop them coming!

It would seem that most of us get junk emails and junk phone calls. The email are easy to deal with Spam filter and a good AV. The junk phone messages or silent calls are a pain ..you rush to answer ..maybe a old mate or family 08452.... Claim center and just receintly a kitchen supplier. I decided to be Mr Doddery old chappie and when asked about a new kitchen ..oh that would be nice and after rambling a bit here and there, this conversation went on for quite some time, I was to be passed to another person...I put the phone down..they called me back to take my details..this time I was Mr Dodderys son ..ahh you have been talking to father he is not to well these days ..the phone went dead

If my sister can't get rid of cold callers, she passes them over to her two year old as he just loves to talk to strangers in his own special language. Unfortunately they don't always stick around long enough to hear his extended rendition of 'Postman Pat', which is a shame.

and it never ceases to amaze me at how affronted they are to be told no, they really expect total cooperation as if they have a right to this information. Yep I have had lots of similar arguments.:flag:

Not a scam this time, but a genuine call from the bank, trying to sell me house insurance.

I've stopped them many times before, by saying, "You wont cover my house, as its timber framed"

As this obviously wasn't stopping them calling me, the last time I went along with the call. It took about 20 minutes of questions before they got to the bit about construction. When I said it was timber framed, the girl faultered, then went to talk to her supervisor. She came back & said she couldn't offer cover.

Must have got them to take me off the list, haven't had a call since.

Our classic response to any phone call that gets through where the caller prefaces their sales pitch with; "We're not trying to sell you anything" is to say; "Thanks for letting me know" and we then put the phone down.

My wife gets a regular call from her bank asking her to come in for her "interview."
Her response is; "I don't owe you any money, I've none I want to invest with you, so I don't need to speak to you." All they want to do is sell you something or transfer you to an "upgraded" account that takes away your free banking.

She won't use cash machines as she can't manage them and her crutches, so she writes cheques, banks hate that don't they?
    She often gets harrangued by some silly sash-waring woman trying to sell her "products," whilst she's in the queue at the bank. She was approached again on Friday, so she said to the woman;

"You could help me with something."

"Oh yes! Certainly! What can I do?"

"You could open an other naffin' window, serve a few customers and reduce the length of this queue!"

The same thing has happened before, but with a different woman.

    But nothing changes.

The "customer friendly" advert for Nat West must be from a parallel universe.
