Looks like what our red peach tree looks like when it starts blooming and since plums and peaches belong to the prunus family, BM is very likely correct. Hope you have a good harvest!

There's loads of em, flowering prunus that is.
Although yours does have longish flower stalks so it could well be a cherry, but which one?

My plums give me terrible trouble in the summer. They seem to attract the wasps when they fall, and there is nothing worse than wasps on your plums !

Just thought you could identify it so we could put it up in the new gallery, when I put my almond up and you can put your various plums / whatever up.

I couldn't distinguish it as anything obvious. I will have a trawl through some of my books but they start to look very similar after a while.

On the basis of probability as well as the timing, general appearance of the buds and habit of the tree, it's a fair bet it is Prunus 'Kanzan'. It is definitely one of the 'flowering cherries' and 'Kanzan' continues to head the popularity list. If it is Kanzan, expect masses of large (5-6cms. diameter), double, bright purplish-pink flowers.

Okay, DaveP, look at the one I've posted in this month's comp and also it's in the Gardeners Corner Blossom section and see if you can identify it. It is a black plum is all I can add.

I had a look LOL, but it seems to be a culinary variety and I'm not at all well-up on those (actually, I've never been an enthusiastic fruit-grower). Most seem to have very similar flowers and are often only identifiable from the fruit. That said, the wood seems to be a lot lighter than any of the fruiting plums I know. Can't help there I'm afraid.

Thank you for looking, DaveP. I know it is a culinary variety. I don't think the flowering-only varieties are very popular here on the theory of why have it if you don't get fruit from it? Different mindset.
