Can you identify this please!

    Im not sure if this is a tree or a large shrub - its so pretty at the mo (in someone elses garden)and I would quite like one [​IMG]

    It is Koelreuteria paniculata - 'Golden Rain Tree'. A very tough, medium sized tree eventually getting to about 30 or so feet high, but can be pruned to keep it within bounds. The flowers are followed by quaint, papery, inflated seed pods that change age to warm brown. Also, the foliage takes on warm orange yellow hues before falling in autumn. It is very easily grown, without any major vices and remarkably drought tolerant when established.

    Marge I took this pic of a Koelruetia a couple of weeks ago at Virginia Water as it is one of the few summer flowering trees. The flowers as you can see are not very big and as DaveW says (like this one) can grow to 30 ft or so.

    The Kew cemetery has a heap of them and they llok spendid. They grow easily from their (copious) seed.
