Hello, I need to know what this plant is. My mum passed away in February, about a month after a plant arrived addressed to her, it must've been really really late! I made sure I kept the receipt so I knew what the plant was, but typical me I lost it. So is anyone able to identify it or at least take an educated guess at how to care for it? As you can see it's struggling, I do try to water it every day. It has been in direct sun all day but today I put it in the shade to see if it prefers it there.

It did flower at one point but I don't have pictures. They were small blue flowers.

    All help is appreciated [IMG]

Hello Pea and welcome to GC.

Sorry to hear about your Mom passing away.

It looks like Borage to me -

We have it in our garden in a semi-shady spot.

Does look a bit like Borage. The flowers look quite pretty and can be eaten in salads or frozen into ice cubes for the decorative effect.

If it is Borage, it's an annual, but it self seeds EVERYWHERE. I've only planted it once in the garden, three years ago and not needed to since!

 Hmm, I see what you are saying Kedi & Aaron, but the leaves are not quite right.. I will photograph my Borage while that I have, I think though that you wouldn't get a Borage plant through the post either... I am thinking though....

OK just while I am keeping you waiting I just had a thought.. I am wondering if it is a Salvia, looking at the leaves.. Could be Salvia nemerosa - Rose Queen... What do you think..??

It is not really saying Salvia to me..

My first reaction was that the leaves looked like Echium, and even the last picture seemed slightly reminiscent of Echium - but I knew that it wasn't that. When Pete said Anchusa - I had a Google and of course Anchusa is in the same family - Boraginaceae, which I hadn't realised. But then so too is Borage. So a member of the Borage family sounds reasonable. :D

Thanks for all the thinking :). I think the flowers did look like the flowers of the Anchusa ([IMG]), but blue. I'll take pictures of them the next time it flowers.
