I was just doing some weeding around my new garden, not knowing an awful lot about gardening, if it looked like a weed, it came up. I got to the bottom of my garden an dug up what I thought was a weed, as I pulled it there were two what look like Rooster potatoes on the root. Am I right?

Surely does look like a spud to me :) Like Alison says it would help if we could see the leaves.

I would say it was a potato.
It doesn't surprise me that you found a potato in the garden. Potatoes will grow from anything - a bit of skin, a marble that got rejected, whatever. If it was on the compost heap and got spread about the garden then a potato would easily come up - right in the middle of a row of lettuce if you're not careful.
For that reason I never put potato peelings on the compost heap - the Council can have them.
But it is a good looking potato for a volunteer :D

like Alice said, they are prolific growers
I would swear that I got up all the tiniest potatoes last year and yet my veggie bed is full of rouge, unintentional potato plants this year.
BUT, saying all that....I wouldn't eat it until you know for sure what you've got!!!

Here's a photo of the plant, there are a couple I never dug up after finding the potato ..

There is what looks like leftovers from a compost heap just a couple of metres away from the plants.

Pete, that's what happens when somebody gives you a Dremmel and you run out of things to do with it before you get bored of it lol

    Hi Alice,

A Dremmel is small electric mini-drill that fits in the hand, it can be used model making and engraving.

.. or cutting ceramic tiles around pipework, cutting out holes in plasterboard around switches, cutting through rusted up bolts in hard to get to locations - I honestly don't know how I ever managed without one :)

OK Guys. I've got the Dremmel bit.
Now - how do the Dremmels and potatoes go together. That's where I get lost. JWK ?
