There is a web site saynoto0870.com which gives you the local numbers of 0870. If you are on a free phone package that means free calls as usually 0870 are exempt.

Another hint they give is when ringing your bank call the number that banks give when ringing abroad. That way you wont be charged when making bank calls.
I am going to try and see if I can get my doctors number today.

Our Head Office uses 0870, but I demanded they provide me with a geographical number. I told them I was not going to pay premium rates to call them. Before anyone says 0870 is a national rate, it is more than a national rate call, therefore it's a Premium rate.

0840 is not a Local call rate either, again it is more than a local call. Look at the name, Lo-Call. It would not be so bad if you got through straight away but you usually sit in a queueing stack and You're paying for the pleasure.

I find that site very useful. But I always use the 0800 numbers, even if they are for a different department. You just ask to be transferred.

I really do think using the name Lo-call is fraudulent. The very name is designed to mislead.

First fault is on my flat screen monitor. When i press the power on button the display comes on then goes off almost immediatly. By continually pressing this button on eventually the screen image stays put. Any ideas?

The second problem involves the iplayer when the chosen programme is downloaded and run the player stops playing every 30 seconds the screen freezes and then it resumes playing. Is this due to my computer having insufficient RAM memory to hold all the file. My ram memory size is a92 megabytes and the programme file size was 300 mega bytes. I have aPackard Bell computer using a 3.5 gigabyte celaron microprocessor.
