Can someone please enlighten me as to how you all manage to get writing onto the photos you put up on here.{eg your initials or titles} and also borders round the photos

I have asked the question before by PM to members but never got an answer so I thought I would do it up front so to speak.Do you need special software to be able to do this or is it a secret society like the Masons you have to belong to? :D

I have asked the computer expert in the family {Mr Kandy}but he says he hasn't a clue, either that or he doesn't want to help me

Any help would be most grateful. [IMG]

PS,I do all my work on a laptop, but don't know whether that makes a difference

Morning Kandy. I don't personally put anything on photos because I throw all my efforts into the public domain. If anyone has a use for one they are welcome to download it and use it.

However any decent graphics manipulation program allows you to do this. Personally I use Adobe Photoshop but an easier (and cheaper) alternative is Paintshop, now produced by Corel (previously Jasc). You can download a 30ish day trial

    Paintshop

to see if you like it. It has a good help file to give instructions.

Good morning to you as well John [IMG] I will have to wait until Mr Kandy comes home from work tonght because if I start downloading things and it goes wrong he won't be very happy.

A few of the members on here tell me that some of my photos are of a reasonable quality to do something with them,so I have been tinkering with ideas of what I can do with them [IMG]

Thankyou for your help, much appreciated [IMG]

    [IMG] Morning Kandy,
It is really easy. You need to have some photo editing software like. Photoshop. Paintshop Pro. Elements. Photoimpressions..

Something like one of these pieces of software all have a text section in them.
Did you not have any editing software with any of your camaras, as some of them also have some sometimes.

If you really want to go into working on your photos then one of the Photoshop programs is thing to get hold of. Some of the earlier ones are now available for free.
Before I got PS7 I used a public domain program called The Gimp. This does everything (nearly) that PS does.
Googling Gimp brings up a lot of info on it.

Kandyfloss, if you are using windows on your lappy, then there is a programme already installed called 'Paint'. It's a very basic programme but it does allow you to add text to you photos.

I use MGI Photosuite available free
Terrier's suggestion is a good beginning [IMG]
I also have a free CD that I got from Hewlett Packard with a printer ... it contains Corel Printhouse, Wordperfect 6.1. Corel Draw and Photofinish 4
I can probably send you a copy if you want [IMG]

I'd not heard of GIMP. I've downloaded the latest version to have a go. It looks interesting for a freebie, so that should keep me busy for a few weeks although I don't think it is a programme for a beginner to tackle.

I use GIMP on my second machine which is running Suse Linux. It is very powerful but like many GNU programs some of the more advanced features are a bit obscure for the casual user.

As suggested above the best solution to adding text and borders is a decent photo/graphics program.

However it can also be done using 'MS Paint' which you should be able to find in "Programs - Accessories" if you are running MS Windows. It can also be done in 'MS Word' and although the range of effects are better, it's quite a fiddle to use.

I too am a GIMP User. Sure it's not as powerful as the professional Adobe Photoshop, but it suits me just fine. And that it's Open Source = rocks.
