My pc is starting to make a teribble running noise, stops and starts and it slows my pc down, logged off and back in and it was fine for a while and starting again, its beginning to drive me potty especially when i,m in the middle of uploading pics or doing anything.
Any idea why it should be doing this my pc is only 2 1/2 years old

I am also very interested to the answer to your query. I find that at times, also my computer makes a noise like if a helicopter was landing next to it....!!! Largely when my little girls have been using it.
To delete temporary files can help, but in my case it doesn't seem to fully solve the problem.

This sounds like a case of dust inside the pc. Hovering it can be dodgy, what you need to get is a compressed air canister, and blow all the dust out. You'll need to take the cover off though to do it, through the vents wont do anything.

It sounds like the fan is making a noise, the bearings start to go, it could go on for years or the fan will stop and the PC will then over heat. If is is a fan problem i dont think it will slow down the PC. Is a desktop or laptop?

It sounds like it was getting noisy when it was getting hot. The fans could be wizzing up because of getting hot.

Before you get rid of dust, like keving says, you could see where the noise is coming from, its WILL be a fan. Sometimes removing dust can help.

gogs it doesnt feel hot so guess its not over-heating.
keving its my desk top, when it happens my pc goes on a slow turning pages is a nightmare and funnily enough twice when this has happened i have recieved and e-mail from bt stating they are working on my hub is this just a coincidence.
the noise isnt too loud it just keeps running for ages then stops and starts again and everything goes very slow, I was on photo-bucket uploading pics and the pags were jumping.
The noise is coming from the tower. thanks for all your help so far, I switched it off for a while and back on and its been ok so far this evening, its making a noise but not doing what it was doing earlier

When your does it again hold down Ctrl & Alt keys then whilst still holding them down press Del key, this will bring up task manager, click on processes. Make sure all the procceses are shown then hit the Print Screen key. OPen Paint or some other Picture/paint software and paste it in. Then save, pm me this file and lets have a look to make sure you have no unwanted processes running.ie spyware etc.
The message regarding your hub may well be an automated message if your internet connection is playing up or being played with. Does it do it straight away or is is when the PC havs been on for a while?

Hi rosa, this noise, does it sound electronic or mechanical? I sometimes get this electronic two-tone noise which is a warning that my processor is starting to overheat. This is caused by running processes that tax the system. I suspect that I have plenty of fluff inside that stops the fan doing it`s job properly. Cheers...freddy.

just thought i would let you all know, spoke to a computer technician and he said by the sounds of things its the fan bearing going its easy to replace and its only going to cost £40 for him to do it.He said with my pc being only 2 1/2 years old its silly buying a new Tower, as i thought about updating it to vista and he warned me vista has a lot of software issues at the moment, people having to replace most of there software, printers etc.
