I have a wireless keyboard and mouse on my pc. Whilst editing some photos using the mouse a lot - the screen froze - looking back the mouse stopped working. Had to power down, and when powered up Chkdsk ran, and deleted a corruped file. The mouse did not work after restart. I had a word with my support people - they said twas either a problem with the mouse (not cured by resynch with the receiver, nor changing the batteries) or with windows. I purchased a wired mouse just to get access.

As I run Acronis True Image as a backup system - I had a full back up of my hard drive, os, partitions, etc done about a month ago. Did a full backup again and then restored the previous full backup. Seemed to set it back to a month ago - I then updated restored my data files - so all should have been working as it was a month ago.

Optical mouse still does not work. Keyboard has always worked fine.

Before I purchase another one - the full restore should have restored all the system files, replacing any missing etc to what it was. Does this therefore mean that the wireless mouse is faulty - don't know much about how they work.

If so do I have to get a full new keyboard and mouse etc - or can I just replace the mouse. The wireless system is Microsoft.

My best guess (although it's difficult without looking at it) is that the mouse is broken, in which case you could just replace the mouse as long as it's the same type. Have you got a friend with the same type? You could borrow the mouse from them if you have and try it. If not it's always worth looking a car boot sales or freecycle for this sort of thing rather than forking out for a new one.

Try doing a system restore to the day before you installed the mouse. Then try re-installing the mouse/keyboard software and see if that works, maybe windows has deleted one of the drivers that works the software.

Thanks a lot -carried out a full restore, and then tried a wired mouse , and a replacement optical mouse - both worked, so must have been a broke mouse. Back up an running now [IMG] . Thanks again.
