Can anyone explain to me what 'Microsoft VM Command Line Interpreter' is? I use ZoneAlarm as my firewall and every so often it reports that 'Microsoft VM Command Line Interpreter' is trying to access the internet. As I don't know what it is I 'deny' it access. Is it something that I should allow?

    Thanks

It comes up every day now. I haven't blocked it completely. I am just denying it access. According to Zone Alarm it has been on my computer since 2003 - that is when I got the computer

It'll just be trying to update itself. If you go here http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/java.php you will find instructions for removing MS Virtual Machine (VM) It's old and outmoded and you are better with the latest version of SUN Java.

There was a lot of bad history between MS and SUN and what you have is a leftover from that era.

Thanks frogesque, but what is MS Virtual Machine for? Is it something I need?

I'm not confident in removing these sort of things anyway but I suppose that if I tell my Zone Alarm never to allow it to download I will not be pestered by it again. Is this correct thinking?

I thought I had Java disabled anyway. [IMG]

    Yours in ignorance. :D :D

Shiney - I'd just let it update itself - so that it stops irritating you - some web sites need Java to use them - as I found when an on line genealogy chat wouldn't work without it.

On advise - got Sun Corp free Java download - and all was well.

    Thanks PC-Medic.

Fran, I've decided not to bother with Java. I've had it blocked for all these years without really noticing any need for it. I've told ZoneAlarm to stomp on it. :D
