youtube

Up until recently I've had no problems watching videos on youtube, now, for some reason I get a message from youtube that says I may not have the latest version of adode flash player or I may have java turned off.
It dont take much I know, but its got me confused.
I've checked the progs. that I have installed and I have flash player9. Anyway I must have the latest version as when I try to download, nothing happens, other than it wants to install a Yahoo tool bar.
As to the java, well I've not turned it off, I wouldn't know how to
Anybody got any ideas.

 

Pete, there should be a Java icon you can open up in control panel but I wouldn't know what I'm looking so I can't help. :confused:

 

Have you by any just upgraded windows as part of that IE.

I lost Java when I upgraded, and had to download it again from Sun. Microsoft states it will no longer support Java from end of this year.

 

I've just had a look at java thanks to strongys reply and I notice that it hasn't updated for at least a year, so I let it do that.
I know windows tends to update automatically Fran, so there may have been an update take place but java is definitly installed.

But it still doesn't work.

 

Pete, just going back to the other thread going with shiney and his problems ... have you put your birthdate into youtube? If you haven't, it won't work.

The unfortunate thing is that you have this option to tick a box that says don't show your age but it doesn't work .. it's proudly displayed under your name! :D Who cares?

If you come back and say you have ... forget that!

 

I do have my age displayed.
I've just gone onto youtube and clicked the channels tab, funny thing is those ones play.
The plot thickens. :confused:

the only thing that i can think of is the update to IE....have you recently installed IE7?

I think pete re-istalled IE. Don't think he'll be back on line until tomorrow evening, if you could re-visit then.

I've not recently re-installed internet explorer, there may have been minor updates, but the big one took place some time ago.

The only things that I can think of that might have some bearing is that registry scrub programme and the spybot one.

i can defenitly say spybot would not stop you from watching youtube, but the regisrty scrub may have done......

have you tried system restore......restore computer back to the week you new everything was ok, and take it from there.
