Yep, got it in one! 116 loose ends in the registry sounds about right

I usually shut down any other running processes before a clean but I don't normally do a restore point. As it's your first time it might be a wise precaution.

Just a little friendly advice people :D

Using any program to change, delete, or fix a registry file is potentially dangerous to the computers stability.

there are many programs that claim to do so, in my 10+ years as a PC technician, i have not come accross one that does not kill someone pc, and make them unstable.

I'm always wary of anything thats free and usually stuff you buy aswell, regarding computers.
No offence PCM, but the computer buisness must be the biggest rip off the general public that there has ever been, There's always something that you are expected to buy just to keep things running properly, think it must nearly be as bad as owning and running a car. :D

No Problem mate, no offence taken;) I too agree the computer software industry has massive loop holes in it and there are many software programs out there that you really don't need, one of them is Registry Fix programs.....this is why Microsoft have updates regulary to support the O/S that you have......i personaly just stick to a Antivirus program like, Panda, Norton, or Nod32. A fireall, Panda, Norton or Zonealarm. Spyware protecion like Spybot search and destroy. In 4 years i aint had a problem with my computer....the other computer i ahve next to me has NO antivirus or spyware protection, i run tests on this and hardly use it on the internet, but it is full of viruses and spyware....

I have a macafee security that runs its own scan once a week, I'm hoping this is sufficent to keep out all the nasties.
Would you say that is likely to be correct?

Tell you the truth, I have done that, saw your link in another thread, but the updates seemed so slow.
I will try again, perhaps tomorrow.
    Thanks PCM. [IMG]

Just gone through it again, it updated OK this time.
It says it found 69 problems which it has now fixed.
you know, I still find all this hard to believe, the other one said I had 116 problem which that is supposed to have fixed.
So how can it still work with all these problems?

if the other program your refering to is mcafee, then i'm sure that it did its best...Not all spyware programs will remove all types of spyware from a computer. They all have different engines and what to look for, you could probably download another program like adaware and it could find some more...but to be honest, i have found spybot to be the best.
