The only thing I can suggest is install a surge protector. We also have frequent power cuts, when I am on line and when not - I have never had to re-install any programmes. It just crashes me and then when back on - all is normal.

Can't you use the lappy with the battery in and a mains adaptor? If I disconnect the mains adaptor on mine it gives a beep and then caries on - just did it in mid sentance.

Maybe I'm missing something though (quite likely [IMG] )

Edit: If the problem is really serious then you could maybe look into installin an UPS (uninteruptable power supply) unit. When I worked in industry our server was protected through an UPS. They are quite expensive though :(

WOO, If you are running a laptop does it not automatically switch to battery if the power goes off?
Is the internet software you mention on your wireless router or computer, either way I can't understand why you have to do a complete reinstallation after a power cut. Your router should have a non-volatile memory and should come up ok if the power has gone off.
As Fran has hinted a surge protector might be what you need as mains spikes which may hit as the power goes down or comes on again can zap memory.

Note to all of you lot - dont run a computer or laptop - or any high value piece of electronic equipment without a surge proctector at a minimum and a uninterupted power supply.
The surge proctector stops any power spikes frying your computer and the UPS gives you time to close it all down safely.

Hi ,I have a Surge protector,I would,nt be so foolish not to.The problem is,nt with my Laptop it Is with the power to my modem and my router, thats
why I have to re-install my Internet all the time. When I switch on the wireless signal is still there (showing strong connection)But I c,ant get Blue yonder untill I re-install it again.I have limited knowledge of gardening but
hardly any about Computers, and probably I,m not the best at explaining myself.Thankyou [IMG]

How are you installing it? When i make changes to mine I do it online at a web page set up by the maker of the router.

Sounds like the router is glitching on restart. I have a Belkin router, and occasionally it does not connect me to the internet via my ISP on start up - though the broadband connection is there and working. Same occurred with my wi fi laptop. Worked out it was a glitch in the router on start up. I just switch the computer or laptop AND router off, off, leave for 30 seconds and restart. Always connects the second time.

See if doing that works with yours, rather reinstalling things. You could also put a surge protector on the router power connection.

Let us know if that helps please. If not it maybe you need a replacement router.
