    hi

Sounds like you might have power savings set on the monitor? It would turn off the monitor after a set period of inactivity.

Does it come back on when you move the mouse?
It could be a screensaver too i guess but they`re not usually a plain black screen.

Stupid I know but check you cable connections as well. If you have access to a different monitor you could also try that on your PC

The mouse shouldn`t really affect the display.
A jerky mouse pointer movement is usually a performance related issue but this sounds more like a conflict or driver problem perhaps.

Has something changed in the system recently,
    ie: new drivers or hardware?

You might try reducing the graphics hardware acceleration settings.

    1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties on the menu.
    2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
    3. Click the Troubleshoot tab.
    4. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider until it is one notch to the right of None, the Basic acceleration setting.

    worth a try [IMG]
