HB I have 1and1 for my Domain - no probs at all.

My actual website/forum host is www.topbb.com which is free but there are limits to what they will let you do - like you can't install hit counters or do your own back-up but to date it has been ok for my purpose. Depends what you are hoping to do with your own web page.

Thanks jjordie. Your Alan Price forum looks excellent! I want to develope a huge photographic website with a multi faceted searchable database. So I'm not sure who offers what

Thanks BM, but please delete the reference to my real name above. Like most of us on GC, I prefer anonymity [IMG]

IMO 1&1 is excellent. There's a really accessable telephone contact for technical support and the amount of add-ons is amazing! I have my three websites on it.

But about "If you use Word you will have an awful job positioning things like images etc." don't you use text wrapping when you try to do this? Once you've done a T/W on the image you can move it around the page at will.

Again thanks to you all for your help and inspiration. I have Office 2000, but my version does not include Frontpage. However a friend has Office 2003 which does. I might be able to borrow that to have a go. I see it costs about £170 new - so I would rather try it before buying it.

Has no one tried the freeware program Arachnophilia

It can also be used for FTP upload (although I use an old version of WS FTP Pro)

Some of you may be aware that there is a website http://frogesque.com/ which is now badly in need of a makeover but it was created with Frontpage Express (a free cutdown version of Frontpage) and then edited with Arachnophillia

GC is hosted through TitanHosts, you don't see any 'downtime' do you ? [IMG]

Titan has an easy to use Domain search facility, and they do not register the domain over your head. I used a domain registration company (Register.com) to search for a domain, I went to take it the next working day, and someone in the company had registered it for themself.

What they do (I think) is, if someone comes up with a good domain name, they register it and put it on SedoParking (a page which is just advertising everything apart from what the domain suggests !!), this is so the domain is being used, and not sitting dormant, as you could make a claim over it otherwise ;) .

If anyone has any questions regarding regisering a domain, contact Titan, they are extremely helpful.

With regards to .co.uk , .Com's etc , it all depends also on your target audience .... GC is also a .EU as well now ;) , which is the next big Domain extension, which is to cover the European Union ;) ....... Hence I found BM his domain [IMG]

I was lucky with the frogesque.com domain. I found it available and snaffled it there and then!

Frogesque was my old original AOL screen name and though I dropped AOL (ptuuu!) and used others it's the main name I've used since then.

My hosting is with Supanames but domain registration is with RSH Web Services
