Anyone know of a spam filtering program that actually works - free if possible. I am getting about 150 spam mails per day and it's getting me down.
    Thanks

I use Yahoo for mail - 90% of spam goes into a bulk mail folder which you can ignore and after a month they self destruct. Any that do get through I report as spam which automatically blocks that address as well.

Edit: only time you really need to check the bulk mail folder is if you have gone to a website/message board that sends a password or confirmation e-mail.

Thanks froguesque, however the mail comes through our business email address from our website, so cannot get round it by using yahoo mail.
I have considered using a online form for customers to contact us rather than having our email adress on the website, however experience tells us that some people don't like using them and and won't bother filling them in.

OK, I 've scratched around and found this one:
    Spamihilator

I've never used it so can't vouch for the program but it's open source so should be free of any nasties. 1.2 million dowloads and perhaps worth a hurl.

I also have a work email and get countless of the pestilent things. I have used Mailwasher Pro from www.firetrust.com for many years. There is or was a free version to try with some fairly lame adverts that you could live with whilst checking it out. It costs didly squat anyway so if it's a business its almost certainly worth the time and trouble to buy.

Only prob is that you have to train it. It does use spamcop, and other databases and they catch a fair few, but every day there are a few more, still - the more you train it the better it gets. It also will bounce the emails that you ask it to, so that the spammer doesn't know if your email address is real, not that it seems to make a huge amount of difference to the volume I receive...

It also has quite sophisticated filters that you can set up so that if - for example - the email subject line contains 'viagra' or whatever you can have Mailwasher delete the thing without even seeing it.

    I recommend it!

Just read it costs $37 so it isn't diddly squat at all - apologies to all, but anyway there IS the free version to try!
