I have aquired a small oblong box in the middle of my computer screen. It is white in colour and is extremely annoying as it's sitting in the middle of my favourite chilli pic. I'm unsure of how to delete it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks. GF.

From you description, the white box is appearing on your desktop picture.Have you tried right clicking on it to see what happens/ what it says.

White boxes on a desktop can occur when a programme/window starts and then quits - leaving the equivelant of a frame behind.

Yes, I've tried that. I've also tried drawing around it to try and enclose it in a sort of box and then deleting it but that doesn't work either.
The other thing is that the desktop icons are also surrounded by a box (like if you single clicked them instead of double clicking) The boxes are blue in colour the same as the window surrounds.

I've had one occur in my taskbar just today. It has a magnifying glass icon beside it. Every time I click on it, it starts up Internet Explorer.

As you say - very annoying!

Not sure what the blue boxes are - it maybe that something has changed in your desktop settings - take a look there.

Have you tried right clicking on the centre of your white box and then clicking first properties to see what it is, and then if nothing important delete?

Another suggestion - change your desk top picture and see if that clears it.

I had a small white box the other day, and I couldn't get rid of it with a right click. I found out it was a desktop picture (ie wallpaper which had put itself there by itself). I got rid of it with (windows98) Start/Settings/Control Panel/Appearance/Background/set wallpaper.

I do find with Windows98 that sometimes the desktop changes when you switch on. Most annoying is when the icons rearrange themselves.

I sorted the problem out by accident last night.I covered the white box with the mouse and dragged the box across the page This made the white area into a large window. It had a minimize, restore and x in the top right hand corner. I clicked on this and it disappeared. The blue boxes around the desktop items disappeared when I changed the desktop settings.
Thanks for all of your ideas. GF. [IMG]

Oh, my white box is in the taskbar. It has no result when I right click but it always opens up IE.

Got some info on my white box - when it opens up IE, the addy in the address bar is "http://deskbar.worldtostart/search".

I did a Google search and found it is labelled "TR/Dldr.Adload.FV - Trojan"

So how do I get rid of this? I've done a full SBS&D and a virus scan but nothing came up. I even did a system restore but that didn't get rid of it either.

    Any suggestions?
