What I use is a wireless router - and broadband. But your laptop needs to have wireless capability - and if it hasn't then I dunno the method of linking. You could use a seperate phone connection I expect.

gogs when i change from tiscali back to bt, the computer guy that does mine said he will have to come back to mine and re-configure my wireless modem router, whatever that all means, these things are more complex than we think, i used to think just run a cd and everything will run ok and thats not the case, get someone that knows how to set these up. good luck

I don't really know too much about internet connection, my teenage son is the expert, but you can connect a PC or laptop to the router via an ethernet or USB cable. Hopefully somebody else will know more about this and be able to explain how it works. We're with BT and all our computers are connected wirelessly which doesn't really help with your problem. I'll see if Simon can help when he gets back from school.

As said already, you will need a wireless router, and depending on your connection (dial-up or broadband), you may need a wire less router with modem or just a wireless router.

I have mine set up with both my pc and laptop wireless and have no problem, for this you need a wireless adapter card for the laptop and wireless adapter for the pc ... I suppose cost wise for all components, around £150 ???

You could always have a quick scout on www.pcworld.co.uk

I asked in pc world about the wireless cards, they are £150 and you get a monthly bill, still looking into these for when i go to wales, i want to take my lap top with me. the guy told me in pc world they were expensive, so at the moment thats why i opted for the netgear as i mentioned above purely for around the home, it depends where you want to use your lap top.

I've asked Simon about this and he says that you can connect a USB cable to the laptop but you need to be in the same room as the PC to use it. Or you can get a wireless adapter which is apparently what we have which go to a router. The router I think was about £50 from BT and the wireless adapter was £15 from the local computer dude. We use BT as the ISP so the router might be more expensive for non-BT users.

As a ps - if you go down the router road, ensure that the router is connected to the pc with an ethernet cable rather than USB.

Dont forget to encrypt your wireless link and only allow certain computers to access it, you dont want someone sharing your bandwidth or worst of all using a packet sniffer to discover your banking passwords and you log into online banking ;)
